Averill Park- Richard A. Carpentier passed away peacefully, at the age of 91, at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Rich was born in Albany, NY, on November 26, 1931, to the late Louis and Bertha (Surprise) Carpentier. Richard lived most of his life in Averill Park and was an equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation. From 1950-1954, Rich proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Rich was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne M. (O’Keefe) Carpentier, who passed away just three weeks before him. Rich was a longtime parishioner of St. Henry’s Church, in Averill Park. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Henry’s Church. Richard enjoyed volunteering with the Bethany Center for over fifteen years and with Catholic Charities Transportation for many years, as well. Rich loved playing any type of card game, which led him to become a member of the Burden Lake Card Club, he enjoyed those times very much. Rich loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Rich was a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. In retirement, he and Jeanne spent many winters vacationing in Florida. Richard was the proud father of five children, grandfather of nine, and great-grandfather of fifteen. He is survived by his sons David (Tamie), James (Louise), and Jeffrey Carpentier; his daughters Suzanne (Michael) Hicks and Kathleen (Scott) Barbour; his nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rev. Sr. Jacqueline Carpentier, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Rodney and Raymond Carpentier.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 10:30 am in St. Henry’s Church, 39 Old Route 66, Averill Park. The Rite of Committal will take place at 1:00 pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, in Schuylerville, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Richard’s family, prior to the mass on Tuesday, at St. Henry’s Church from 9:30-10:30 am.
