Malden Bridge- Carolyn M. Allen of Malden Bridge, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Pine Haven Nursing Home in Philmont. Born August 19, 1935 in Malden Bridge she was the daughter of the late Wendell P. and Louise M. (Corsey) Allen. She was predeceased by a baby sister, June Louise.
Carolyn was a graduate of Columbia High School. Upon graduation, she went to work for the New York State Department of Transportation as an administrative assistant in the Accounting Department until her retirement after over 40 years of service.
In retirement, Carolyn owned White Goose Antiques located in the barn at her farm on Reed Road. Carolyn was the Volunteer Old Chatham Union Cemetery Corporation Treasurer for over 50 years until declining health caused her resignation in 2023. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Malden Bridge and then a member of the North Chatham United Methodist Church, when the Malden Bridge church closed.
She had a generous spirit and co-signed loans for a young friend so she could get on her feet and buy a house and another friend, starting out in life, buy a car so he could go to work. She cared for her parents, neighbors and friends when sick.
She enjoyed a great social life with her colleagues from Albany for many years after her retirement. She had the ability to be a true friend. She was unselfish, kind and wonderful company.
Carolyn had a love for animals, especially her cats and her white geese. Known for her independence and honesty, Carolyn was truly a self made woman. She lived on the farm, where she was born, until declining health required her to move to Pine Haven.
A graveside service will be held on May 31, 2025 at 10:30 AM, at the Old Chatham Union Cemetery, Shaker Museum Rd., Old Chatham, with a Brunch to follow at Carolyn's childhood and lifelong home, 317 Reed Rd., Valatie, NY 12184.
In Lieu of flowers, Carolyn would be pleased to have donations of any amount made in her memory to the feline rescue "Collaborative Cats" P.O. Box 88, Ancramdale, NY 12503 or to Old Chatham Union Cemetery, PO Box 183, Malden Bridge, NY 12115.
