Nassau- Daniel Warren Dean, 79, formerly of Valhalla, NY, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Born September 1, 1947 in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Martin Considine Dean and Mildred (Grueben) Dean. He grew up in Ghent and North White Plains.

Daniel was the owner of Dean Painting and Decorating in Westchester County for 30 years. He was well known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his loyal customers. He will be remembered for the profound influence he had on the lives of those who worked for and with him. In retirement, Daniel volunteered at the New Hope for Life Community Food Pantry and monitored the Route 20 Blue Bird Trail for 17 years with his wife Susan.

Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Bravo 1/1 from 1966 to 1968. He was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Con Thien and Khe Sanh, and the Battle of Hue City were among the many engagements in which he played a role. Daniel attained the rank of Sergeant, a testament to his dedication, leadership, love, and commitment to the Marines he served alongside.

Daniel was a loving and devoted husband, parent, grandparent, and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family, raising and showing Bantam chickens, gardening, cooking, and watching birds. He particularly enjoyed seeing the United States with his wife Susan by train, and never stopped exploring his home state of New York. Daniel loved the outdoors, hunting and trapping as a young man, skiing whenever he could, and fishing his whole life. Always eager to take any kid with him out on the water or into the woods, Daniel helped many kids catch their first fish. He made countless memories with young people outside because he never forgot what it was like to be a kid. Daniel touched many lives with his humor, quick wit, and fun loving personality. The interest he took in so many people made lasting impacts.

Daniel is survived by Susan (Riley), his loving wife of 57 years, his son Matthew (Paige) of North Yarmouth, ME, his daughter Erin Carnahan

(Andrew) of Arlington, VA, grandchildren Payton and Maeve Dean, Roxanne, Lola, and Hazel Carnahan, sisters Marion Gardner of Rensselaer, NY, Barbara Ramey of Long Island, ME, brother Stephen of East Greenbush, NY, and his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Daniel was predeceased by his brothers John of Ghent, NY, and Martin of Los Angeles, CA.
