Deborah S. Romer

January 29, 1945 — May 5, 2024

Nassau

Deborah Strevell Romer, 79, of Nassau, NY passed away peacefully on May 5, 2024, after a
prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born in Newton, Massachusetts in 1945 before her family moved to Nassau, New York. She lived in the same house in Nassau for 76 years. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1963 and went on to graduate from the Albany Medical College Nursing Program.

Her nursing career was cut short by the entrepreneurial spirit of her family and husband who started a business. Debbie helped the company grow in the early years. She then supported her husband and business as the years unfolded by raising three children at home. Her role was critical to the growth of the business that still exists today as Clear View Packaging.

Tennis, bowling, golf, cards and scrabble were her games. She was the Queen of the two-letter word. Painted village scenes, organ music, stained glass globes, custom ceramics and calico cats were her creations. She was the Pencil Lady. Organizing events, being the team mom, volunteering in schools, decorating for Christmas, and attending kid’s activities was how she spent her time. Elm Street, Schroon Lake, Dunmore Acres, flower gardens and sporting events were her places. Neighbors, children, grandchildren, family and friends were her people. Grace, humility, fun, grit and unconditional love were her traits.

Her games, artistry, hobbies, places, people and traits live on in all she touched. We are thankful for all those who touched and supported her, especially in her time of need. The inquiries, prayers, notes, gifts and visits for over a decade combined to form consistent waves of comfort and joy.

A special thanks to the staff at Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center whose remarkable compassion and catered care calmed Deborah’s mind and filled her heart with love.

Deborah was preceded in death by her father, Donald; mother, Fulvia; and aunt, Laura. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bill Romer of Nassau, NY; brother, Donald Strevell (Lynne) of East Greenbush, NY; son, Todd Romer (Jennifer) of East Greenbush, NY; son, Trent Romer (Melissa) of West Sand Lake, NY; daughter, Tara Burris (Ed) of Nassau, NY; five grandchildren, AChante, Chesney, Benjamin, Christian, Jonathan; and many close friends and family.
