Castleton- Douglas M. Pulver, 82, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, at The Grand at Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie, NY. Born in Albany on October 26, 1943, the son of the late Donald and Winnie Weinstock Pulver. Doug was raised in East Nassau in the stone house lovingly built by his father, a place that shaped his appreciation for craftsmanship, nature, and home.
Doug was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1962, and continued his studies at Hudson Valley Community College. He went on to work for the New York State Office of General Services as an architectural draftsman, a career he was proud of until his retirement in 1995.
After retiring, Doug and his wife, Martha, devoted themselves to raising llamas at their beloved Greenbush Llama Farm. Doug's deep affection for animals touched every part of his life; he was known for his gentle spirit and his unwavering commitment to caring for feral cats in his community. He attended Clearview Cristian Missionary Church in Castleton and cherished time spent by the ocean-especially during memorable visits to Ogunquit, Maine.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Martha Johnson Pulver; his daughter, Sandra Hill and her husband Tony, of Castleton; his brother-in-law, Dana Johnson of Kennebunk, Maine; and his cherished grandchildren, Alexandra, Haley, and Angelo Hill, who brought him immense joy. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Pulver, who passed in 2024.
Doug will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet humor, and the steady compassion he extended to people and animals alike.
