James Stephen Tomchik, 55, died on March 8, 2016 at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Jim was born to Patricia and the late John Tomchik on August 30, 1960 in Albany, N.Y. He grew up on the family farm in East Nassau with his sisters Patricia (David) DiCarlo, Jeanne (the late Paul) Cote and his brothers, John (Heather) and Daniel. He was a 1978 graduate of New Lebanon Central School and joined the U.S. Army in 1979. Jim served for 22 years and retired in 2001 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Chief Tomchik was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Throughout his life Jim enjoyed working on cars, building with his hands and caring for animals. He is survived by his wife, Victoria and his children, Michael and Meagan Tomchik. He also leaves behind two grandsons, Donovan James Clarence and Liam Gabriel Presley. Jim leaves his uncle Paul Tomchik, four aunts and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim's life will be honored at a Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 23, 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, Nassau, NY. Burial is scheduled for July 21st at Arlington National Cemetery
