Nassau- Janice Mae Clewell, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 16, 2025. Janice was born in Albany, NY on August 5, 1936 to the late Arnold and Marion (Gee) Clewell of Nassau, NY. Janice spent her childhood days in Albany until moving to the families hometown of Nassau, NY where she resided for over 30 years. She was predeceased from her loving partner, which they shared their life together for 50 years in Cohoes, NY. She also lived her last 3 years with her niece, Michele (Munson) and nephew Michael Peart of Rensselaer, NY. Janice worked at Williams Press in Albany for many years before retiring from Don's Movers of Albany, after 20 years. She loved fishing, going to the casino, and lottery scratch offs. She was the life of any occasion with her witty sense of humor and many jokes. She loved to make people laugh. She was a very giving human being and was loved by many.
In addition to her parents, Janice is predeceased by her brother, Arnold Clewell, Jr. and her sisters, Joan (Munson) Clewell, Barbara (Clewell) Maeo, and Nancy (Clewell) Bray. She is survived by her loving sister, Beatrice (Clewell) Mangine and her brother, Paul Clewell (Arlene). She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was the favorite aunt of a very large family.
Janice's family wishes to thank the staff of the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center and her hospice team for the kind and compassionate care they gave her in the last few months of her life. A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers at home Cara Brie, Tanisha Singleton, and Terry McCalvin.
A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janice's memory to Samaritan Hospital, The Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, or Community Hospice.
