John J. Broughton Jr., 78 of Castleton, passed away on August 24, 2015 at Barnwell Nursing And Rehab. in Valatie. Loving husband of JoanMarie Broughton he was a 1954 graduate of Schodack Central Schools, attended Clemson University and graduated Albany Business College in 1986. John had worked for various trucking and car companies, New York State, Standard Furniture and Quest Diagnostics. Mr. Broughton was in the ROTC and served our country in the Army Reserves for eight years. John was a life member of Nassau Hose Co. #1 and Schodack Valley Fire Co. He owned John's Speed Shop and Nassau Comm. Hobby Depot. John enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Falzos and Classic bowling Leagues. He also loved Drag Racing and was a Ham Radio and CB operator. In addition to his loving wife of 39 years he is survived by his children: Deborah (Gary) Wallace and Judith (Michael) DeZalia, brother, Richard (Tami Wais) Broughton, grandchildren: Travis (Jessica) Wallace, Jaime Wallace, Joshua Wallace, Amanda DeZalia and Kelsey DeZalia,great grandchild, Cameron Wallace, step children: Donna (Michael) Goodall, Dawne (Steven) Kelly, Denise (Lou Cardella) Leggett and Joseph (Brenda) Hacker, step grandchildren: Erica Hacker (Steven Shumway), John (Rachel) Leggett IV, Tiffany (Ed Guida) Kelly and Joseph (Bekah) Hacker Jr., step great grandchildren: Karleigh English, Adalie and Walter Leggett, Lani, Bella and Mika Hacker. He is also survived by his niece, Elizabeth (Steve) Hart, nephews: Richard (Johanna) Broughton, John (Shelly) Broughton and their children. He was predeceased by his daughter Joan J. Broughton and step grandson Steven Kelly Jr. Funeral service from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau on Friday, August 28 at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Interment will be in Horizon View Cemetery, Castleton. The family would like to thank Barnwell Nursing and Rehab for their care over the last 16 years, Columbia County Hospice, Albany County Hospice and the staff of the fourth floor at Albany Memorial Hospital.
