Rensselaer- Joseph D. "Joey" Richardson, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by the love of his devoted sisters.
Born on October 25, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Joey was the son of the late Floyd Richardson and Josephine Benis Richardson.
Joey dedicated many years of service as an office worker for New York State before retiring. Following his retirement, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of living in Florida, where he resided for more than twenty-five years and enjoyed the warm weather and relaxed pace of life.
An avid outdoorsman, Joey found great happiness in hunting and fishing. Whether casting a line in a favorite fishing spot or spending time in the woods, he appreciated the peace and beauty of nature. He also cherished the time spent with family and friends throughout the years.
Above all, Joey will be remembered for the love he shared with his family. His sisters remained a constant source of companionship and support throughout his life, and they were by his side as he peacefully entered eternal rest.
In addition to his parents, Joey was predeceased by his brother, John (Jo Ann) Richardson and his sister, Viola (Harold) Pickard.
He is survived by his children, Jayson (Jane) Richardson and Tanya (Frank) Starker; his loving sisters, Mary Anne Dronchi and L. Susan Richardson; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home, Samaritan Hospital Pavillion Unit #4, and Dr. Garcia and his team for the care and compassion they provided to Joey.
