Raymond P. Akins, 67, of Nassau passed away peacefully on Aug. 4, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany he was the son of the late William and Evelyn Akins. Mr. Akins was a Vietnam War Navy veteran who served on the USS Saratoga (CVA 60). He was self employed as an electrician for Capital Controls which he co-owned with his good friend James Miano. Raymond loved to hunt and enjoyed time at his cabin in the Adirondacks that he shared with Tom Finn and Tom Finn Jr. He enjoyed playing poker and taking motorcycle rides with his wife. Raymond was a family man and loved helping all of his family members in any way he could. He will be dearly missed by his dog Koda who never left his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Gail Akins; daughters, Michelle (Richard) Kment and Kimberly (Jerry) Skarzynski; brother, Todd Akins and his loving grandchildren, Frederick "Ricky" Hiller IV (Kristen Pulver), Ashley Hiller (Quinn Lashway), Kasia Skarzynski, Chelsea Skarzynski and Christopher Kment.
