Robert A. Murnane, 73, of Petersburg, NY, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital in Troy. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he is now reunited with the love of his life, Susan, who passed in 2024.
Born on June 13, 1952, in Providence, Rhode Island, to James and Helen (Clemens) Murnane, Robert was a man who lived life with quiet strength, deep devotion, and a spirit always drawn to the great outdoors.
A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, Robert's proudest title in life was simply "Grandpa." He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing a chance to share stories, laughter, and love. Family gatherings were his favorite adventure, whether close to home or on visits to Florida to see his beloved siblings.
Robert had a special gift for mentorship and kindness. For over 20 years, he served as a dedicated Boy Scout troop leader, helping to shape the lives of countless young men with his patience, integrity, and steady guidance. He led not just with knowledge, but with example.
He is survived by a large and loving family: his sons Robert Murnane and Eric (Renee) Laki; his step-son Eric Osgood; his daughters Kimberly (Erik) DeGeorgio; stepdaughters Amy Baker and Kathleen Osgood; his cherished grandchildren Tyler Charbonneau, Virginia Thomas, Dylan and Nolan Murnane, Samantha Little, Britnie, Eric, and Sebastian Laki; three step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
Robert also leaves behind his dear siblings, Billy, Jimmy, Patrick, and John Murnane, and his sister Helen Murnane McGillicuddy.
A graveside service will be held in celebration of Robert's life on Monday, October 13, at 12:00 p.m. at Brookside Cemetery in Poestenkill, NY.
