Listen to Obituary

Scott A. Barber, 59, of Nassau, passed away suddenly at St. Peter’s Hospital in the early hours of January 11, 2026, surrounded by his children. A proud graduate of Columbia High School (Class of 1984), Scott went on to study Criminal Justice at SUNY Oneonta and later earned his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School. He valued education, history, justice, and a good conversation—especially if it involved politics, current events, or a lively debate. Scott truly had the gift of gab and never met a stranger he couldn’t talk to. He was an avid gamer and a black belt in Karate, with a lifelong love for martial arts and football. Whether discussing strategy, discipline, or the latest game, Scott brought passion and personality to everything he did. Above all else, family was his greatest pride. His children, niece, and nephews were the center of his world. Scott showed up for every sporting event, celebrated every achievement, big or small, and never missed an opportunity to brag about them. He was their loudest cheerleader, their supporter, and their constant presence. He was the proud president of the “Barber Braggers Club.”

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen “Honey” Barber. He is survived by his children Erynn (Brian) Mulvaney, Valerie Barber, Avery Barber, Shawn Roberts, and Cameron Roberts; his brother Ken (Amy) Barber; his niece and goddaughter Melissa (Anthony) Alloy; nephews Paul Barber and Matt Barber; his beloved granddaughter Elsie; his aunt Rev. Mary Jane Barber; and his loyal dog Bubba. Scott will be remembered for his stories, his humor, his strong opinions, and most of all the deep love he had for his family. His voice, laughter, and presence will be missed more than words can express.

Calling hours will take place at Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home in Nassau on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 2 to 5 pm, with a memorial service immediately following.
