Virginia C. Doherty

Virginia C. "Ginny" Doherty, 79, passed away on May 11, 2026. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Smith. Ginny graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School in 1964. Upon graduation she was employed as a legal secretary at Cooper, Erving, and Savage, Esqs. She completed her secretarial career at the NYS Labor Department in 1992, whereupon she then provided childcare for her grandsons, Jeremy and Ryan.

Ginny's greatest pride and joy was her cherished daughter and best friend, Lisa Rossello, who predeceased her on June 18, 2021. They are now reunited in peace and happiness.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years, Paul Doherty; her stepchildren, Amy (Joe) Sicker of Gansevoort, Brian (Amy) Doherty of Gansevoort, and Deanna (Jeff) Doherty of Ballston Spa; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Regina) Rossello and Ryan Rossello, Dylan and Devin Sicker, Breana, Nolan, and Garrett Doherty, and Parker Allen; son-in-law, Paul Rossello of Nassau and sister-in-law, Carol Smith of Delmar. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her daughter Lisa, Ginny was predeceased by her brothers, George Smith, Walter Smith, and Robert Smith and her sisters, Ann Conklin, Mary Lou Tuck, Peggy Teta, and Rita Smith.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, 26 Church St., Nassau. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow the calling hours at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rt. 203, Nassau.
