William H. Pelton, Sr., 71, of Nassau passed away at home on May 6, 2024. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Charles R. Pelton, Sr., and Patricia (Dame) Pelton. William was a graduate of Colonie Central High School and attended grammar school at Cathedral Academy, in Albany. He went on to serve honorably in the Army National Guard and was employed by New York State prior to his retirement in 2008 from the Office of the Comptroller.
Will was an avid sports fan following all the New York teams, was a Nassau Little League team manager and coach, and SORENSCO Babe Ruth coach. Will played baseball himself for many years in the Capital District Men’s Senior Baseball League on the Marlins and was an umpire at the Capital District Baseball Umpires Assoc. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing.
Bill is survived by children, Raymond M. Pelton, William H. Pelton, Jr. and Suzanne K. (Christina) Amash; the mother of his children Karen (Skelly) Pelton; siblings, Janice (Jim) McGinn, Ruthann Benedict, Patricia Goble, Joseph Pelton, and Michael (Joyce) Pelton. He is also survived by his grandson Miles V. Pelton along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Pam Hirsch, Patrick Pelton and Charles Pelton, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with William’s family on Friday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May, 11, at St. Mary's of the Nativity Parish, 26 Church St. Nassau.
